// Website Speed Optimization

Fast Sites
Win.

Google scores slow websites lower in search. Visitors abandon pages that take more than 3 seconds to load. We diagnose exactly what's slowing your site down and fix it — with proof in your PageSpeed score.

Every second of
delay costs you
real customers.

Google uses Core Web Vitals — a set of real-world speed metrics — as a direct ranking factor. A site that scores in the red doesn't just feel slow; it ranks lower than a competitor whose site is otherwise equal. You may have the better business and the better service, but the faster site wins the click.

Beyond rankings, slow sites bleed revenue. Amazon found that each 100ms of added latency cost them 1% of sales. For a small business, a 4-second load time on mobile can cut your conversion rate in half compared to a 2-second load. The gap between a 90+ PageSpeed score and a 40 score is not cosmetic — it's the difference between ranking on page one and page three.

We fix the actual causes — oversized images, render-blocking fonts and scripts, unused CSS, poor server caching — not just the symptoms. Every change we make comes with before-and-after documentation so you can see exactly what moved the needle.

The most common
performance killers.

Image Optimization

Images account for the majority of page weight on most small business sites. We convert to WebP format, resize files to display dimensions, add lazy loading for below-fold images, and add explicit width/height attributes to eliminate layout shift (CLS).

Render-Blocking Resources

Fonts loaded via @import and scripts in the <head> without defer/async block the browser from painting your page. We restructure font loading using the preload pattern and defer every non-critical script so the browser renders immediately.

Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS, TBT)

We target all three Core Web Vitals: Largest Contentful Paint (how fast the main content appears), Cumulative Layout Shift (how much the page jumps during load), and Total Blocking Time (how long the main thread is locked up by JavaScript).

CSS & JavaScript Minification

Unminified CSS and JS files are larger than necessary. We strip comments and whitespace from CSS, minify JavaScript files, and remove unused CSS rules — reducing file size by 30–60% with zero visual change to your site.

Analytics & Third-Party Scripts

Google Analytics, chat widgets, and pixel tracking scripts are among the biggest contributors to blocking time. We load them correctly — deferred until after the page is interactive — so they collect data without hurting your score.

Cache & Server Headers

Without proper cache headers, browsers re-download your site's assets on every visit. We configure Netlify (or your host's) cache settings so returning visitors get near-instant load times from their local cache.

Diagnose. Fix.
Prove it.

01

Full Site Audit

We run your site through PageSpeed Insights, WebPageTest, and a manual code review. We document every issue — image sizes, script load order, font loading, cache headers — prioritized by impact on your score.

02

Fix Plan + Approval

We share the audit findings and proposed fixes with you before touching anything. You see exactly what will change and why. No mystery edits to your site without your sign-off.

03

Implement Fixes

We make all the changes directly in your site files — converting images, restructuring script loading, minifying CSS, updating cache headers. Everything is documented as we go.

04

Before & After Report

After fixes are live, we run the full audit again and deliver a before/after comparison showing your PageSpeed score improvement, LCP, CLS, and TBT changes. You see the ROI clearly.

05

Handoff & Guidance

We document the "keep it fast" rules for your site — what image sizes to use, how to add new scripts correctly, what to watch for — so future updates don't undo the gains.

Common
Questions.

Yes — more than most business owners realize. Google uses Core Web Vitals (speed metrics) as a direct ranking signal. Two sites with identical content and authority will rank differently based on speed. Beyond rankings, conversion research consistently shows that a 1-second delay in load time reduces conversions by 7%. On mobile, the impact is even worse because mobile connections are slower and users are less patient.

Google's scoring: 90–100 is Good (green), 50–89 is Needs Improvement (orange), 0–49 is Poor (red). Our target for every site we work on is 90+ on both desktop and mobile. Most sites we audit start in the 30–60 range on mobile. After our fixes, they typically land in the 85–98 range depending on what the site is running.

We primarily work with hand-coded HTML/CSS/JS sites, which have a performance ceiling that WordPress simply can't match because WordPress runs server-side PHP and loads a plugin ecosystem that adds overhead. That said, we can audit your WordPress site, identify what's causing the biggest drag, and give you a clear set of fixes to implement — or a recommendation on whether a rebuild makes more sense economically.

No. Speed optimization is invisible to visitors — it only changes how quickly the same content arrives. Images look identical in WebP as they do in JPEG or PNG (often better). Deferred scripts still load and run. Minified CSS produces the same visual result as unminified. Your site will look exactly the same, just load faster.

No. If we built your site, performance optimization is part of how we build — we don't deliver a slow site and charge you to fix it. The speed audit and fix service is for sites built by other developers, agencies, or DIY website builders where performance wasn't prioritized during the build.
